Welcome to Waq Waq Island, a land of myth and lore, where forests laugh, sing, and...scream.
For centuries, the elders disputed its existence as they washed death nuts down with hot bored coffee; traveling scholars emptied countless ink cartridges penning histories and recording Waq Waq lore; and the artists...they interpreted all of their elders' arguments and scholarly histories through rendered, visual mediums.
Indeed, the only evidence of Waq Waq Island had been found in medieval manuscripts, oil paintings, chipped mosaics and fading frescos adorning the walls of shrines and temples.
But the provenance of the lore remained a mystery, until, at the height of the 2021 Bull Run, a mysterious document appeared in the wallet of a degen collector. Using Etherscan to research the token ID, it became clear this was not a typical airdrop--the token ID read "Waqwaq Island."
This time it was different.

Waq Waq Island will be an inclusive, collaborative, and international art and storytelling project to build upon the wonderful world BAYC has envisioned. Waq Waq Island's aesthetic pays homage to medieval texts and visual representations of the elusive Waqwaq trees found within manuscripts, such as The Shanamaeh (the Epic of the Persian Kings) and the sacred geometry of Middle Eastern textiles, mosaics, and paintings.

Chapters & Pages:
We follow one another on social media, we support and share information with one another, now let's embark on a narrative journey, together--Bored Ape strong.
Think of the Waq Waq Island's collective ape-submission and storytelling initiative as our nod to the Bathroom Wall--which we think is one of the more groundbreaking moments of this space in particular and the contemporary art world in general. Discord and Twitter will serve as our cafe, where collectors can chart the narrative direction, collectively.
Ape Submissions
The Waq Waq Council will call for ape submissions by verified BAYC token holders in advance of a chapter's release. The council will provide submission parameters for each chapter to facilitate the submission process.
Selected apes will be notified directly and receive an honorary Waq Waq Emblem, which we designed to format nicely in the headers and banners of Twitter and Opensea
Holders of selected apes will have the opportunity to reserve one mint from each page , at primary price (0.1ETH)
Narrative Submissions
BAYC token holders and ape enthusiasts will not only have the opportunity to submit their apes to appear in the series and collect pages of the Waq Waq Manuscript, but also contribute to the series' narrative development.
Upon minting a chapter's final page (PAGE 5), the Waq Waq Council will call for narrative submissions interpreting the entire chapter. Once selected, the author(s) will join the Waq Waq Council to participate in the subsequent chapter's review process. The submission parameters, such as word count, will be provided in advance of the deadline.
As with the art of the Waq Waq, the collective storytelling component is inspired by the oral traditions of the Middle East, where, for centuries, stories, poems, and histories were orally relayed until transcribed in manuscripts; or, much later, printed.
Selected narratives for each chapter will accompany the visuals in the printed physical at the end of the collection.
